On Heritage Day, a captivating exhibition showcasing the line sketches of renowned cartoonist and artist Subhani was inaugurated at J.N.A.F.A.U. (Government University) under the guidance of Mr. Harikrishna Mamidi, Director of Heritage & Culture, Government of Telangana.
The event, held from April 18th to April 20th, 2025, celebrated the rich history of Telangana through art, drawing special attention to the monumental legacy of the Asafia Dynasty.
The inaugural ceremony featured the esteemed Nawab Raunaq Yar Khan, the 9th Nizam of the Asaf Jahi Dynasty, who lit the ceremonial lamp alongside Mr. Harikrishna and other dignitaries, including Ramna, President of the Hyderabad Art Society, and Mr. Gangadhar, Vice-Chancellor of the University. The event highlighted the importance of preserving heritage through artistic expression, with Subhani’s sketches serving as a bridge between the past and present.
Subhani expressed his gratitude and joy at having Nawab Raunaq inaugurate the exhibition, highlighting the significance of showcasing the architectural beauty of numerous palaces and buildings associated with the Asaf Jahi Dynasty. His works not only honor the heritage of Telangana but also evoke a sense of pride in the community.
The Nawab, a long-time admirer of Subhani’s work in the realm of caricature in major English newspapers, praised the artist’s unique ability to blend wit and depth in his sketches. “His art provides a humorous yet profound reflection on the day’s events, revealing insights into the intricate tapestry of politics and culture,” stated Nawab Raunaq.
The heritage exhibition also featured the sketches of Telangana Martyrs Memorial, designed by Mr. Ramana, emphasizing the continuity of legacy from the Kakatiya Dynasty to modern-day Telangana.
Subhani, a recipient of numerous accolades for his artistic endeavors, expressed his commitment to using art as a tool for cultural preservation and education. The three-day event significantly contributed to the cultural landscape of Hyderabad, celebrating the region’s artistic talent and historical richness.
