The Department of Urdu, Veera Nari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University (VCIWU), Koti, Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Nazeer Ahmed Educational and Memorial Trust, successfully organized the “Nazeer Ahmed Memorial Lecture” on the theme “Maulvi Allauddin and Turrebaz Khan Shaheed -Freedom Fighters of the First War of Independence, 1857.”
The event featured an enlightening lecture by Prof. Arshia Jabeen (HCU), who shared her research expertise and highlighted the historical significance of the martyrs of 1857. Dr. Md. Shoeb Ahmed, son of Shaheed Md. Nazeer Ahmed, emphasized the importance of preserving the Urdu language while also shedding light on the historical legacy of the First War of Independence.
The program was presided over by the 9th Nizam of the Asaf Jahi Dynasty H.H. Raunaq Yar Khan, who graced the occasion with his presence. Distinguished personalities including Mr. Abdul Hameed Shaukat, Editor of Justice Times; Mr. Murtuza Farooqui, Advocate, High Court; Mr. Riaz Ahmed, senior journalist of Siasat Daily; and Mr. Shajiullah Farast, Editor of Etimad Daily, enriched the event with their thought-provoking addresses.
Speakers highlighted the role of Maulvi Allauddin and Turrebaz Khan Shaheed in the struggle against colonial rule, while also underlining the urgent need to safeguard and promote the Urdu language in contemporary times.
A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of 1857. To recognize contributions to Urdu and education, Mr. Md. Mahmood Ali Sohail, President of the All India Ideal Teachers Association, and Dr. Md. Shoeb Ahmed received Certificates of Appreciation. Faculty members Dr. Ghausia Banu, Dr. Sameena Begum, and Dr. Md. Ehtesham ul Hasan were also honored for their dedicated educational services.
The event also marked the inauguration of the Computer Section and the official Urdu website “Nida-e-Naseem” of the Department of Urdu.
The program was well-attended by teachers, students, eminent social activists, and media representatives, making it a memorable occasion to celebrate the legacy of freedom fighters and the preservation of the Urdu language and culture.
