Azmat Jah Succeeds Mukarram Jah as Nizam IX in Asaf Jahi Dynasty

In a notable turn of events, the Chowmahalla Palace, the office of the Nizams, announced on Saturday that Mir Mohammad Azmat Ali Khan Azmat Jah has been legally recognized as the ninth Nizam of Hyderabad following the demise of his father, the eighth Nizam, Mukarram Jah. Mukarram Jah passed away on January 14 in Istanbul, Turkey, and his final rites were performed with military honours on January 18. As per the desire and decree of Mukarram Jah, his eldest son, Azmat Jah, was anointed as his successor and the ninth head of the Asaf Jahi dynasty. A brief ceremony was held in the presence of Mukarram Jah’s family, where Azmat Jah was formally installed as Nizam IX. However, it is crucial to note that Azmat Jah will not bear the official title of Nizam IX due to the abolition of titles by the Central government in 1971.
