The historic Sardar Mahal in Hyderabad, built in 1900 in European architectural style by Nizam Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, is on track to complete its restoration within the next six months. Overseen by the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA), the ₹30 crore project aims to transform the heritage palace near Charminar into a vibrant tourist hub by March 2026.
The restoration, which had faced delays due to funding issues, has now resumed in full swing with the help of public representatives, ensuring timely payment to contractors. When reopened, Sardar Mahal will feature an art gallery, cultural centre, café, and heritage accommodation modeled after Rajasthan’s renowned Neemrana Fort Palace. This addition is set to become a major attraction, complementing Hyderabad’s iconic Old City landmarks.
Originally built for Nizam’s consort Sardar Begum, who chose not to reside there, the palace carries a unique history. It was later taken over by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in 1965 and declared a protected heritage site by INTACH and the Heritage Conservation Committee.
The revitalized Sardar Mahal is expected to offer visitors a blend of art, culture, architecture, and hospitality, enriching Hyderabad’s heritage tourism and preserving this gem for future generations.
