Telangana has unveiled its ‘Vision 2047 for Heritage’, which aims to combine heritage and innovation to enhance tourism, generate employment and strengthen the state’s cultural identity.

As part of the roadmap, arts, heritage and traditional knowledge would be promoted as key elements in education and public life.

The tourism and culture departments, along with communities, would organise heritage walks to spread awareness about the rich heritage among the people. A unique identity with the brand Telangana would be created across culture, crafts and heritage.

Hyderabad city and districts would be developed with signage reflecting heritage, culture and traditions. Heritage structures would be restored to strengthen their identity.

“The 2047 goal is to make Telangana a recognized global destination, where unique heritage and innovation provide a signature tourism experience and support in making business,” officials said.

The Old City Unesco Mission would integrate Charminar, Mecca Masjid and Chowmahalla palace with restorations and heritage lighting. Another goal is to get the Unesco World Heritage Status for the Old City of Hyderabad.

The vision plans to pursue more Unesco sites in the state for cultural heritage (tangible and intangible), natural heritage and mixed heritage sites.

Buddhist sites and its traditions will be developed and stronger ties established with South East Asian countries.

Stepwells like Bansilalpet and ancient tanks in Warangal would be used as open air theatres and night tourism spots featuring curated performances.

The Kakatiya heritage circuit would be expanded from the Ramappa temple, the Thousand Pillar temple, the Warangal fort and onward to Karimnagar’s Elgandala and Medak Forts.
